One place where the leaks can come from is the place where the showerhead is connected or screwed to the pipe. Another cause of leaks is when the showerhead is clogged that causes the water to be stagnant and leak after some time.
The first thing that should be done when fixing the shower faucet is to remove the showerhead from the pipe. A towel should be wrapped around the place where they are connected to protect the showerhead to be damaged. When the showerhead is successfully removed, the washer will be visible and this will be the one that should be replaced. If the washer is loose, put some plumbers tape around the thread and put the showerhead back in place.
If the culprit is a clogged showerhead, the faceplate of the showerhead can be removed by unscrewing it to the head. If in case the faceplate could not be removed, the whole showerhead can be removed. The reason for clogged showerheads is the lime deposits brought by the water that passes the unit. This should be removed by soaking the faceplate or the whole showerhead in white vinegar for at least eight hours. This can make the removal of the lime deposits easier when poked with toothpick or small nail. After removing the deposits, the faceplate should be scrubbed with a brush and be put back on the wall.
If the shower has rotating showerhead, the rotation or the swivel of the head can be increased by putting some lubricant in the interior of the swivel ball. Preferable lubricant to be used is silicone so that exposure to water is not a problem.
So when the shower is leaking, remember that fixing the shower faucet is so easy to do that it won’t need any professional or a new set of shower just to fix it.
