Bathroom Shower Faucet

Faucets are used to deliver water from the tubes or pipes in the house. They are designed to be switched on and off in order for people to control the usage of water. People nowadays also use bathtub shower faucets in their bathroom.

Basically, there are two types of faucet: the one with neoprene washers or rubber and the one with no washers or washer-less faucets. The difference between them is, obviously, the presence and absence of washers and their composition. The commonly used or designed faucets are those with cartridge or the washer-less faucets. Those with washers are considered to be old designs of faucets. These faucets function by having the rubbers tighten against the seat of the faucet so the water will be blocked. If the faucet is washer-less, you have to replace the cartridge but if the faucet have washer, you will replace the washer.

You should remove faucet handle first by removing the cap to expose screw. Remove the screw to remove the handle of the bathtub shower faucet. You will see a sleeve of stem at the exposed insides of the faucet. Sleeves can have different configuration depending on the brand. There are those that are directly connected to the valve and some are threaded with plastic tubes that are connected to the valve. You should know what type you have there prior to proceed to the next step.

The valve stem may also be the root cause of the problem when you have a leaky bathtub shower faucet. The valve stem is usually located at the opposite side or end of the handle. This valve has packing nuts around the stem. You may need to have a wrench in order to have the nuts removed. In order to know the right nut, you need to turn the nuts and when the valve stems turn, that’s the nut that you need to remove from the stem.

You can see the washer at the inside end of the whole system. Take off the washer and replace it whether it is damaged or still looking new. You can also replace its whole stem if you like. Just bring the stem in a hardware store so that you can get the correct one. Washers can also be bought in hardware stores.

You should also check the seats of the faucet if they are needed to be replaced. Inside of seats have square recess or hex. If the seat is rough, better replace it. You can also buy it in hardware stores.

If you have replaced the things that need to replace, put back the parts that you have removed. Just remember that when your faucet has nuts, put back the trim only after you turned on again the water system. When you have noticed that there are no leaks anymore, then you are finished.

If, on the other hand, you have washer-less faucets, the procedure is quite the same with simple ways to repair. You need to replace the cartridge that is usually located at valve body by removing the trim and the stem just like those with washers.

There are also faucets that have Delta style. This type of faucet has cup seals which are pressed opposite the cartridge so that the flow of water can be controlled. You can repair it by replacing the springs and seals. Delta style also has faucets that have balls instead of cartridges. The procedure is the same; you just have to deal with balls and the same springs and its seals.
